2008 Edition of The Taittinger Collection
Rauschenberg 2000

The latest Taittinger collection was produced from the 2000 vintage and the bottle created by the well known American artist Robert Rauschenberg. Made from the first press wines, the blend is 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. It is pale gold wine with toasty aromas and a concentrated, complex palate with a long, elegant finish.

It is a limited edition and is the 11th Taittinger Collection wine, and is a “Collector’s” wine.

Rauschenberg, perhaps most famous for his ‘Combines’ of the 1950’s, was one of the celebrated figures of the pop art scene, often using ‘found’ material in his iconic works. He was the first American artist to win the Grand Prize at the 1964 Venice Biennale, one of the art world’s most prestgious honours. [Read more...]

Mumm Expedition Kit (Voyager)

This kit has been created with the expert help of international leather designer Bill Amberg and renowned british explorer Bear Grylls.

This canvas side pack, bearing a rat leather sash denoting the house of G.H.Mumm, is light yet robust enough for any expedition. The insulated compartment on the right side houses the cooling pouches which surround the bottle of Cordon Rouge keeping it perfectly chilled. The other compartment contains two elegant unbreakable champagne flutes. It also contains a leather embossed serving mat with red suede reverse and ideal setting for a flute of Mumm Champagne.  A carrying strap is also provided.

Mumm Expedition Kit (Rucksack)

The bag is the product of a collaboration between designer, Bill Amberg and renowned adventurer, Bear Grylls and its sole purpose in life is to ensure that your bottle of Mumm is delivered to your glass at the perfect temperature – wherever you may be.

Made from nappa leather, the bag comes with a padded and insulated chilling compartment and a cotton lined section for “two elegant, yet indestructible champagne flutes”. There’s also a bridle leather embossed serving mat with red suede reverse.

A message in a bottle, lost at sea

During World War One, November 3, 1916, off the coast of Finland, a German Submarine sunk the Swedish ketch: Jonkoping. The cargo sank while on its way to St Petersburg, with on board special shipment of 10,000 gallons of Cognac, 17 barrels of Burgundy Wine, 3000 bottles of Heidsieck & Co Monopole 1907 “Gout Americain” dedicated to the Russian Imperial Army.

Unfortunately, the Cognac and the barrels of Burgundy wine did not survive the 82 years spent in the sea, but 2500 bottles of Heidsieck & Co Monopole champagne were extraordinarily preserved.

The goods (Champagne, Cognac and Burgundy) were at first conveyed from Le Havre to Galve, in Sweden then transhipped on the Jonkoping. The freight was aimed to be delivered in Finland, in Rauma, then to be transported by rail to St Petersburg (These wines and alcohol being for the headquarters of the Russian Imperial Army). Serge Hochar’s father established a winery in the castle of Mzar north of Beirut in the Bekaa Valley in 1930. Serge gained much experience at Chateau Leoville Barton, so it is not surprising, that the red wine of Chateau Musar resembles a fine Bordeaux. It is blended from various proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsaut and Syrah planted on the slopes of the Bekaa Valley 30 miles further east and is capable of many years bottle maturation.

RI – Wine of Ascot represents Peter and Christiana Kaplanski to import the range of wines produced by Cascina Christiana winery which is located between Genoa and Alessandria on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Nizza Monferrato.

Peter and Christiana who purchased the winery only 5 years ago, have produced already two stunning wines in the first year of production in 2001 followed by Soldivigna Barbera D’Asti in 2002. This wine is aimed as a “ House Wine “ for easy drinking at home, in Restaurants, Wine Bars etc. The Vintages are following this year The boutique winery itself is part of a small complex which also offers luxurious self catering facilities.

The vineyards are planted with Barbera D’Asti grapes, which are indigenous to the region. The vines thrive in the unique soil conditions of the area. a modern state of the art winery was completed in 2002. Cascina Christiana is committed to to producing wines of the highest quality.

The first wines had been introduced to Restaurants etc. in the local area and have surprised many with their outstanding quality and taste and gained rapidly an outstanding reputation.

The first export contract was completed with RI – Wines and the range of the first 3 wines are already sold in the UK market with new vintages to follow shortly.

La Mota. Barbera D’Asti Superiore 2001/ 02

“La Mota“ is the only Barbera d’Asti Superiore produced by Cascina Christiana. Specially picked grapes have been used to produce this excellent wine. Matured in oak barrels for 11 month. The richness and the elegance of this wine make it the the estate’s flagship.

• Colour: ruby red with perceptible garnet rim.
• Bouquet: Intense, complex combination of mature fruit and wood.
• Taste: Dry, full, rich with ideal balance of acidity and tannin.
• Vintage: 2001 Vol.: 13.5%
